The safety requirements which apply to events or to any applications involving the movement of loads rise as the degree of professionalisation increases. Our response to these growing requirements is a new type of load monitoring system licensed for use on lifting gear, by means of which overloads and underloads can be detected and chain hoists or entire groups subsequently shut down. This system for loads from 150 to 2,000 kg operates on the basis of strain-gauge tension measuring cells with integrated measuring amplifiers. The current signal from 4 to 20 mA enables the use of connecting cables of up to 100 m in length. Data transmission to the laptop or PC is effected via an RS 485 interface integrated in the data acquisition module, to which up to 16 measuring cells can be connected. The load monitoring program performs calibration and evaluation of the data, which can be carried out either as an external display or via the ChainMaster network in the ChainMaster controller. In this way, overloads and underloads are detected and the appropriate chain hoists or chain hoist groups are shut down. This system with its user-friendly operator interface possesses BUS capability and is able to incorporate up to 31 stations with a maximum of 496 measuring cells.
