A short story:
A Steadicam® is a body-worn camera stabilisation system which was invented in the 1970s by American Oscar®-Winning inventor, Garrett Brown.  The Steadicam® has been used on countless movie and television productions the world over since its invention and allows a camera to be as free as a handheld camera to float in-between obstacles, up and down stairs and over rough ground without the shake associated with hand holding.
With the advent of lightweight camcorders in the 1980’s, Garrett Brown has invented a number of smaller and lighter version of his Oscar® winning invention that can be held in the operators hands yet can still yield the same stable shots. The current smallest handheld device is the multi-award winning Steadicam® Merlin.

And now, with even smaller HD video recording devices like the Apple iPhone 4, iPod touch and GoPro are becoming commonplace - Garrett’s original idea is yet again reborn as the new Steadicam® Smoothee!  Only this time... it’s simpler than ever!
Choose the Smoothee for your device, mount it, shoot!  The device is pre-balanced for your device straight out of the box!  Now, with a little practice, owners of the smallest HD devices can achieve the same Hollywood look of the bigger Steadicam® systems all in a simple, easy to use unit.

The Steadicam® Smoothee is the easiest to use and set-up Steadicam® we have ever made.
Using the Smoothee is as simple as selecting the correct Smoothee for your device, placing your camera in the Smoothee mount, attaching it to the Smoothee using the simple quick release clip and you’re ready to go!
Whilst no balancing is required, you may want to fine-trim the cameras angle by using the red knobs on the side and rear of the unit.

There are several different way to operate the Smoothee.  When you first begin, place one hand on the handle to take the weight, the using the thumb and forefinger gently on the surface above the gimbal handle to control pan and tilt.  Use a very light touch and let the Smoothee work it’s magic.
With a little more practice, you can operate the entire unit with just the one hand.  Hold the handle slightly higher to allow your thumb and forefinger to become free of the handle.  Then, gently use these to control the pan and tilt of the unit.

The Smoothee device mount also has a special trick, it features a standard ¼ x20 camera mount and can be used to mount your device onto a conventional tripod.
